Doctor writing a prescription

Follow the path of your RightSourceRxSM mail-order drug

Ever wonder about how mail-order prescriptions work? In this section you can follow the path of your prescription from your doctor's office, to RightSourceRx, to your home.

The life of a RightSourceRx prescription

Step One
A doctor writes a prescription (Rx) for you, a Humana member.

Step Two
You make the choice to use RightSourceRx, you mail in the Rx, and you complete a member profile. Or, you can ask your doctor to call or fax in your prescription to RightSourceRx using the fax form on the Website.

Step Three
RightSourceRx receives the Rx.

Step Four
A RightSourceRx order entry technician checks your Humana member eligibility and adds your profile to the database if one has not been created already. The technician also scans the Rx into the database and attaches it to your profile.

Step Five
An item entry technician interprets your doctor's instructions on the Rx and enters the Rx as an order into the system. The technician uses several resources to ensure that he or she enters the correct information.

Step Six
The order then goes to the screening area where a pharmacist verifies what the item entry technician interpreted is correct, and checks for drug interactions and allergies to the medication(s) prescribed.
  • If approved, the screening pharmacist sends it to Humana's third-party claims processor.

  • If not approved, because it is missing information or there are issues that must be discussed with the prescriber (doctor) prior to dispensing, the screening pharmacist sends the order to the doctor call team.

The doctor call team makes 3 attempts to contact the prescriber. If there is no response after 3 days, the doctor call team returns to you the prescription that cannot be filled with a letter of explanation.

The doctor call team pharmacist approves the remainder of the order and sends it to Humana's third-party claims processor.
Step Seven
Humana's third-party claims processor determines if the Rx is payable:
  • If yes, the claims processor sends Humana's payment to RightSourceRx. The order is passed back for continued processing.

  • If no, the claims processor forwards the order to an exceptions technician. The technician reviews the rejected claim and takes the appropriate action. He or she either fixes the issue or returns the Rx to you explaining why it cannot be filled.
Step Eight
The system determines if the medication is available.
  • If yes, the order moves on to dispensing.

  • If no, the order is put into a backorder queue where it remains until the drug is available. If an item is on long-term backorder or has been discontinued, the order is sent to the doctor call team responsible for these issues. They work with members and their prescribers, if necessary, to get what they need.
Step Nine
Depending on the type of medication on the order, each Rx is filled and labeled either automatically by a dispensing machine or by dispensing technicians.

Step Ten
A pharmacist makes sure the product matches the label before it is placed into a shipping container.

Step Eleven
The order is sealed and shipped to the member.
